Sealed for God's Work
Baptism
This
sacrament, affirmed by our Lord, is administered to all those who
have given their lives over to the saving Lordship of Jesus Christ, and
their children (see Acts 16:31-33), only if they have not been baptized
before in any other Christian church. It is a sign of repentance, of
death to an old life and the beginning of a new, and the inclusion into
the family of God.
Lord’s
Supper
This
sacrament, established by our Lord, “proclaims His death
until He
comes” and is done in order to “remember”
who He is
and the price He
paid for us on the cross. All those who have been baptized are welcome
to the table, regardless of denominational background. Sometimes, the
elements are passed; other times, congregants are invited to come
forward and dip the bread into the cup.
Each
of these sacraments are outward signs or “seals”
(see Eph.
1:13)
of an inward reality; a ceremony in and of itself does not administer
grace.
